Study of axillary lymph node asymmetry in a female population

We analysed a large series of axillary lymph nodes, with and without metastases following radical mastectomy for breast cancer. We found left/right asymmetry in numbers of lymph nodes, and also asymmetry of lymph node dimensions, which could have been the caused by tumoral antigenic stimulation. The distribution of hyperplastic node patterns differed significantly.
Male breast cancer: Modified radical mastectomy or breast conservation surgery? A case report and review of the literature

INTRODUCTION: Male breast cancer (MBC) is a rare disease that accounts for <1% of breast cancer cases. The most common treatment is modified radical mastectomy (MRM). Recently, breast conservative surgery (BCS) is getting popular for MBC treatment. We report a case and reviewed the literature to investigate whether emerging BCS can be considered as an alternative of a more radical surgery. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 46 y.o. patient, presented with a painless left breast lump over a period of six months. The patient underwent a quadrantectomy at another institution. Male breast cancer: Reconstructive surgery

The conventional treatment for male breast cancer consists of modified radical mastectomy with axillary sentinel node biopsy and/or axillary lymph node dissection in case of lymph node-positive disease. However, breast-conserving surgery (BCS) is gaining popularity also among men. In both cases, surgery leaves an aesthetic disfigurement that impacts patient well-being and quality of life. Thus, even if male breast has a different social and emotional role than female’s one, male breast reconstruction deserves the same importance. The aim of this chapter is to give a comprehensive review on latest indications and strategies for the post-oncological reconstructive surgery of the male breast.
Skin-nipple-sparing mastectomy: The first approach in primary myxoid chondrosarcoma of the breast

Abstract The primary mammary chondrosarcoma corresponds to less than 0,5% of the mammary malignancies. For the period ranging from 1967 to 2014, only 18 cases were reported in the literature. A 41 year old woman found a hard nodule on her external right superior quadrant/axillary prolongation through breast self-examination. The vacuum-assisted core biopsy (VACB) revealed “high grade extra-skeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma”. A skin-nipple-sparing mastectomy with the insertion of a mammary expander was performed. Evaluation of routine follow-up after surgery for breast carcinoma.

Close postoperative follow-up of patients with breast cancer permits the early detection of possible recurrence of disease. Such follow-up allows for the detection of a tumor mass, that is small enough to permit adequate treatment leading to an increased survival time and better quality of life. Thus we studied 85 patients treated by radical mastectomy in stages I, II, and III during the period from December 1977 to June 1982. Among 82 patients, 41 had axillary node involvement and received adjuvant chemotherapy with C.M.F. All patients received a strict follow-up.
